When Love Goes the Second Mile

In chapter 5 of the Gospel of Matthew Jesus gives us a new and expanded understanding of the Old Testament law. He begins by saying, “You have heard that it was said….but I say to you.” He talks about loving our enemies and praying for those who harass us so that we will be acting as God’s children. He invites us to show love to all. He also invites us to go the second mile if asked to go one mile. “When Love Goes the Second Mile” will be the theme for worship during our capital campaign and the season of Lent. The theme will remind us that Jesus himself went the second mile as he showed his love for us all the way to the cross.
