Rev. Emily Everett
Pastor, Outreach & Congregational Care
Who I Am
Emily grew up in Houston, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s UMC. She graduated from Lamar High School and went on to Texas Woman’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in voice. During her undergraduate years she spent her summers traveling and meeting God all over the world from inner city San Antonio to Manila, The Philippines. These summers were where her love of mission and engaging with God in different cultures began. After graduating in 2005 she spent 2 months in São Paulo, Brazil as a Global Justice Volunteer with the Methodist Church and her life was changed forever. She fell in love and ever since has been deeply involved in Brazil, both with the church as well as the local street children’s project where she served her first time there in 2006. Beyond Brazil she has a heart for all things Latin American and has traveled and partnered in various mission trips in Bolivia, Guatemala and Peru.
Emily went to Perkins School of Theology and graduated with her Master’s of Divinity in 2013. After taking a year off to finish the commissioning process, she was commissioned as a Provisional Deacon at this year’s Annual Conference. She is passionate about the work of the Deacon and being a bridge between the church and the world, keeping one foot planted firmly in the love and grace of God and one foot planted in a broken but beautifully diverse world that God created.
Emily has two sisters, Buffy and Jenny, and a beautiful nephew Aiden. Her parents still live in the same house she grew up in just north of Pasadena.
Emily serves in congregational care as well as helping to grow the already active missional identity of First UMC Pasadena. She is specifically hoping to build bridges into the immediate community surrounding the church, including the Hispanic community.
